Black Friday is now a weeklong event (possibly a month-long event). Also, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have now merged into one hybrid online/in-person super shopping event. In the past two years, Black Friday has become more online focused due to the pandemic (at least that’s the case for me). This year, I did most of my shopping from the couch (online) with some in-store pickup.
Purchase #1 • Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy (PS5)
Last weekend, November 20th, I received an email from Best Buy letting me know that the Black Friday deals had arrived a week early. I first had to check which games were on sale. I knew the latest releases like Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042 wouldn’t be on sale, or if they were it wouldn’t be much of a sale.
When I saw the newly released Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy game was only $30 on PlayStation 5, I immediately purchased it online and picked it up the next day — a week before Black Friday had even begun. Just days after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend I am already pretty far into the game.
Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy is still on sale for $29.99 right now at Best Buy.
Purchase #2-4 • New Razer Products
I also bought three new Razer products as “business purchases” for myVGBC.com.
Razer Ripsaw HD
The first item I purchased was the Razer Ripsaw HD, a streaming/gameplay capture device. I don’t plan on using my Ripsaw for streaming (at the moment) though. I mainly purchased it because I wanted a way to capture footage on my Nintendo Switch for more than thirty seconds at a time.
There may be cheaper ways to capture footage on my Nintendo Switch, but I do like that I will be prepared for if I ever do want to stream. Also, the Ripsaw was discounted to $123.49 and I was able to save an extra $20 with some Best Buy Rewards bucks.
The Razer Ripsaw HD is still on sale for $123.49* at Best Buy.
Razer Viper Mini
I currently own a Razer DeathAdder (mouse) for my Gaming PC. I have been using the Naga (mouse) for my MacBook Pro, which is primarily used for games like World of Warcraft — with all of it’s extra side buttons. The Naga is fine, but when I saw that Razer has “mini” versions (or slightly smaller versions) of certain mice I thought it would be perfect for my Macbook Pro.
I bought the Viper Mini to use with my MacBook Pro, not really for gaming (although I can do that). I bought it more for design and general tasks. Sometimes I just prefer having a mouse, even though I go back and forth between using the mouse and trackpad.
The Razer Viper Mini is still on sale for $28.49* on Best Buy.
Razer Seiren Mini
For the past few months, I’ve been using my PowerA/Lucid Sound headset mic for podcasting. I own a Blue Yeti USB mic which is used by many streamers and podcasters, but my PC is way too loud and the Yeti Mic picks up all that fan noise when I use it. I use my Yeti for voice over and recording on my “silent” MacBook Pro.
I’m excited to try out the Seiren Mini with my PC and see if that makes a difference with the PC and not picking up sound. It will also be a good mobile mic for certain things, like interviews on the go or recording things using my iPad and GarageBand. We’ll see how this works, possibly in a new product review down the line.
The Razer Seiren Mini Mic is still on sale at $33.24* on Best Buy.
Purchase #5-6 • Doom: Eternal (PS5) & Spelunky 2 (Nintendo Switch)
I couldn’t just get one new video game for Black Friday. Although, Marvel Guardian’s of the Galaxy was the only physical game I bought as a Black Friday deal (so far), I also picked up two digital games.
Doom: Eternal
Ever since buying my PlayStation 5, I haven’t really had an all-out First Person Shooter to play. Yes, I’ve been playing Deathloop, but the way I play feels more like a stealth game with some fast-paced FPS elements. I’ve also played a few other FPS games, but most of them were from the last generation (PS4).
I’ve been waiting for a big DOOM: Eternal sale because I’ve wanted that big, next-gen, fast-paced FPS experience. And, although DOOM: Eternal was made for the last-gen, it has received some next gen upgrades.
The standard edition of DOOM: Eternal is still on sale on the PS Store for $14.99.
Spelunky 2
For the longest time I’ve heard how amazing Spelunky was as a game. I first played it some time after it was free to PS Plus subscribers and I just didn’t understand it. It wasn’t until the sequel came out and got more hype that I decided to really give it a try.
For the past few months I’ve been playing a lot of Spelunky on PlayStation 4. It’s a super challenging game, but also very addicting (more on Spelunky in an upcoming post). Now that both games are available on Nintendo Switch and Part II was on sale I finally pulled the trigger. I haven’t tried it out yet, I don’t know if I’m supposed to beat the first game — I don’t even think that’s possible.
Spelunky 2 is still on sale on the Nintendo eShop for $15.99.
Black Friday in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Since I didn’t do any physical Black Friday shopping (instead of picking up some of my purchases the next day), I was happy that Animal Crossing: New Horizons had its own Black Friday event. Nook’s Crannys was hosting a weekend sale where products were 30% off.
I missed Turkey Day in AC:NH this year, so instead I headed over to Nook’s Crannys after midnight to wait in line a bit for the sales and get that classic Black Friday feeling.
I came back to my island the next day and bought out the entire store. It was fun, and way less hectic, than the Black Fridays in the past.

That’s all of my “gaming related” Black Friday purchases from this year. I also purchased a few movies, books and some Christmas presents. I don’t know if I will make any other purchases today for Cyber Monday, but any gaming related ones will be added to the list.
I included links to my purchases, not because I will be given any deals or kickbacks, but just to make them easier to find for those interested. Also, the Best Buy prices marked with an “*” include a small percentage extra for being a My Best Buy member.
If you didn’t have the chance to enjoy any Black Friday shopping over the weekend, that’s ok. You can still have a great Cyber Monday.
