Sora is Finally Here! Final Smash Bros Reveal

For the longest time we’ve all been thinking, Who will be the final Super Smash Bros. Ulitmate fighter? Today, we got the answer — it’s SORA (Kingdom Hearts)! Everyone had their thoughts on who would be joining the fight today, and since this is the last fighter I’m sure many will be disappointed about not seeing their main pick.

I’ve heard people mention Crash Bandicoot, Master Chief, Doom Slayer, some Fortnite people and Sora. Others had said we would get more of what we already have. A new Pokémon, another Fire Emblem hero. And some were hoping for something totally unexpected like Kratos, Wolverine, Mickey Mouse, Grogu?

SORA IS FINALLY HERE!

So, it’s Sora! I’m actually really excited about this one. I haven’t always been into the Kingdom Hearts games. It was only a few years ago with the release of the Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far collection that I started my journey into this franchise. I started with the first Kingdom Hearts — and I am still somewhere towards the end of that first game.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate new fighter reveals are always edited so perfectly. These videos keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see who they’re revealing. They have also been known to have some parts that throw the audience off and have you thinking it’s someone else. I had no idea it was Sora until seeing the Mickey chain on the Keyblade.

I’m not a big JRPG (or big RPG) person, although I want to be. I do enjoy my time with them. I just usually get lost, confused or lose interest at some point. Still, I continue giving them a try. And I know I will get back into Kingdom Hearts some day and my goal is at least to play KH I, II and III. I don’t know if all of those extra games are necessary.

I think the Kingdom Hearts franchise is the perfect JRPG starting point for me since I love everything Disney. Even as a kid I played random NES Disney games just because I love Disney so much. My favorite SNES game (other than Yoshi’s Island) was definitely Disney’s Aladdin (the game). I think Sora will bring me back to Smash Bros, at least for a little while. It’s also been tough to want to play Smash during a global pandemic when we haven’t been able to gather with friends at someone’s house for a Smash Tourney.

Mii Fighters

Of course we also got some new Mii Fighters: Some Splatoon and Doom Slayer. These are always fun and cool to look at. The costumes are cute, but who’s actually using Mii Fighters in Smash Bros? They also cost extra and I feel like these should be included with the DLC Fighter Packs.

NEW STAGE, MUSIC

Every new fighter comes with a new fighting stage and music. Sora’s stage is a very cool floating platform that soars around Hollow Bastion and transforms into a world inside the heart with a morphing background featuring characters and imagery from the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

Sora and the new stage bring nine Kingdom Hearts songs to the game. If you own and have save data from Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory you’ll receive an extra song.

I’m very excited about this announcement and I wish there were more fighters coming. Even though I rarely play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate anymore I’ve been looking forward to the next new fighter since the game was released in 2018.

It was also finally announced that the Kingdom Hearts games would come to the Nintendo Switch in the future. I don’t think it’s the full The Story So Far collection, and Kingdom Hearts III will be released as a cloud version. If I didn’t already own the entire collection for PlayStation 4 this would be more exciting for me.

Also, this made me think it’s time to jump back into Kingdom Hearts franchise and finally beat part 1 and move on to the next games.

Sora will be available as the final fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on October 18, 2021.
