F1 25 | Part I • Braking Point

I’ve been playing the EA Sports F1 games for the past four years, starting with F1 22. Prior to my love for the F1 franchise (and the real-life motorsport) I had always had an obsession with racing sims. On my PlayStation consoles it was the current Gran Turismo game, and whenever I owned an Xbox console it was Forza Motorsport. We are currently obsessed with Mario Kart World, but that’s a whole different kind of racing game. After starting my F1 journey in F1 22 I never looked back. In fact, I should go back to driving “normal cars” in Gran Turismo 7 soon — just to see how it feels.

I recently had the chance to play F1 25 and I started off by completing the new story mode, Braking Point (Part III). This is the third time a story mode is being offered in the F1 series. Braking Point has been released bi-yearly (F1 21, F1 23, and now F1 25). Back in F1 23, I only spent a brief time on Braking Point (Part II). It has taken me about six hours to complete this new chapter in the Braking Point (Part III) series, and it was a great appetizer to F1 25.

I’m now ready to begin my F1 25 career, but first let me share my Braking Point: Part III experience.

Braking Point III | A Family Affair

There are plenty of reasons why I stuck it out to the very end with this rendition of F1 25’s Braking Point. For anyone new to the F1 game series, I’d recommend jumping in during a Braking Point year. It’s a great intro to F1 with some light racing and fantastic story beats.

I didn’t make it far enough in the last Braking Point (F1 23) to drive as Callie Mayer, but this time she’s already a full-time Konnersport F1 driver. As the daughter of the team owner, Daviodoff Butler, she has to deal with the chatter of being a “nepo baby” — like the real-life F1 Driver/nepo baby Lance Stroll, who’s father Lawrence owns the Aston Martin F1 team which he drives for. There’s also the added pressure of being the only female on the grid. The story allows the player to switch between Callie and the other Konnersport driver, Aiden Jackson from chapter to chapter.

In the past, I’ve played through a couple of EA story modes (including a few Madden Longshot stories). The previous story modes have been just fine at best. Braking Point (Part III) takes inspiration from real-life, whether it’s dealing with shady sponsorship prospects, balancing team power dynamics, handling post-race interviews, experiencing family drama, and more true-to-life moments.

Overall, there’s a nice balance between racing gameplay (a couple of laps here and there) and storytelling (cutscenes and interviews), along with some light admin work (managing emails, social media, and phone calls). The player makes decisions as all team members from the drivers to coaches and owners.

The story is split between the mid-to-end of the 2024 racing season, before jumping into the 2025 season for another chance at being the top team (and driver). I wouldn’t want this story mode to go on much longer than six hours, it was the perfect little intro to the new mechanics in F1 25. It almost acts as a lengthy tutorial to the game.

I’m a huge fan of the cinematic presentation during the driving bits in Braking Point (Part III). The team captain lays out your objective before the widescreen bars fade away to full screen and it’s time to drive.

Unrelated Revenge Plot

Weeks before the release of F1 25, I had just completed my career as Enzo Fitipaldi driving for Ferrari in F1 24. I came in second to Max Verstappen by only a few points — I didn’t take care of my car parts. I had surpassed him mid-season and started to build a comfortable lead. At some point he began to chip at my lead until he left me behind in the final races.

In the first half of Braking Point: Part III, Konnersport also lost to Max Verstappen in the 2024 season. Now, I had to make up for Enzo and Callie and beat Max in 2025 — and I did!

I now plan to start a career and beat Max again with another driver. I’m thinking of a redemption story for Lewis Hamilton as a Ferrari driver. I will report back once I beat Max in my F1 25 career. I also plan to cover the F1: The Movie missions once more come available.

See you on the grid.
