Now that I’ve received both — my PlayStation and Nintendo — gaming wrap-ups for 2024, it’s time to share. From 2023 to 2024, my overall stats remained pretty consistent. This year, I played a total of 126 games (68 on PlayStation 5 and 58 on Nintendo Switch). That’s only ten less than the total number of games played in 2023 (136) — 71 on PlayStation 5 and 65 on Nintendo Switch.
My total hours remained pretty close to the prior year, as well — 826 hours total. I spent 578 hours on PlayStation 5 games and 248 on the Nintendo Switch. Much of my Switch gaming hours are played in handheld mode — in bed or on the couch. If I do end up picking up the PlayStation Portal this holiday season, that may lower my Nintendo Switch hours even more for 2025.
My first games played in 2024 were both rollover games that I had started in the previous year — in December. I started off with Final Fantasy VII Remake (PlayStation 5) and Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo Switch).
Top Games | 2024
Most of my gaming hours this past year consisted of couch co-op or “pass & play” — where my girlfriend and I would switch off between rounds. Our top games on each console (PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch) both happened to be of the “pass & play” variety — Fall Guys (PlayStation 5) and Splatoon 3 (Nintendo Switch).
Splatoon 3 was our most played Nintendo Switch game for the second year in a row — thanks to multiple Splatfest weekends. We also teamed up for our second top game on PlayStation 5, Rocket League, where we spent many weekends (and weeknights) kickin’ butt online in 2v2 matches. The Nintendo wrap-up only gave me my top three, but I’m pretty sure UNO (another game we play together, as a team) would have been number four.
The next few games on the lists were solo games. On PlayStation 5 I spent most of my time with Star Wars Outlaws, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Astro Bot. On the Switch I split my solo time between another Ubisoft hit, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and my late-night puzzle game, PICROSS S+. I picked up Balatro last month, but have been playing non-stop, so I will put that as my number five on Nintendo Switch.
I was able to finish the main story of Star Wars Outlaws and Astro Bot — I even achieved a shiny new platinum in Astro Bot. I will continue Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and hopefully, Horizon: Forbidden West in 2025. I’m am also very much not done with Balatro.
Monthly Games | 2024
My monthly gaming hours each year fluctuate in no particular pattern. My strongest month on PlayStation (80 hours) was August, while it was also my weakest on Nintendo Switch (4 hours). Of all the months, I only spent more time with the Nintendo Switch in February and November (46 in February and 28 in November).

There was a common trend of solo to co-op (or pass & play) games. On PlayStation 5 January through March were spent mostly playing Rocket League before we moved onto The Ascent (another co-op game). Fall Guys was our game of the summer (May through August). After that I went back to my solo adventures for a bit — Star Wars Outlaws (September), Astro Bot (October), and recently NHL 25 (November). This month, we jumped into the co-op mode for Cult of the Lamb and it’s our new obsession. I enjoyed it as a solo game, but I’m liking it much more together.
My Nintendo Switch gaming followed a similar pattern of jumping between “pass & play” Splatoon 3 and other games. Splatoon 3 was our most played game during January, February, April, May, July, and September (6 out of 12 months). The in-between months were spent on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Pepper Grinder, Piczle Cross: Story of Seasons, PICROSS S+, and most recently Balatro.
What Comes Next? | 2025
It’s always fun to be able to see how you spent your time gaming over the past year — the same way people love sharing their Spotify and Apple Music wrap-ups. I’m even surprised sometimes to find out that I played certain games this year and not in a previous one. It’s also a good reminder of which games you forgot to finish (Horizon: Forbidden West, Pepper Grinder, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown). I’m also hoping to make it to the end of Sea of Stars.
I don’t think I will find the time to go back to all of the games I wasn’t able to finish. I’m already planning on the future. I’m hoping to start 2025 off with another Final Fantasy game — Final Fantasy XVI. I’ve downloaded multiple games on my PlayStation 5 for later — some old and others new. Of course, any time a new sequel is about to be released I always try to go back to whatever came before it.
Last week’s The Game Awards also gave us a lot to look forward to. What was your 2024 in gaming like, and what are you hoping for in 2025? Share below…

Did you enjoy Star Wars Outlaws? I think the game looks so good, but I don’t know if it’s my thing because I heard about lots of stealth.
