Six One Indie Showcase 9.19.24 | TOP FIVE

Well, the Six One Indie team did it again!

Yesterday, Six One Indie held their second showcase of 2024. What’s great about Mike, Kyle, and the team at Six One Indie is that they are committed to showcasing smaller indie titles that may go overlooked. In just a little over an hour they were able to showcase forty-five indie titles.

The day didn’t end when the showcase was over. There was plenty of post-show content with developer interviews and previews. They put in a great deal of work before, during, and after the showcase. It’s been amazing to see these showcases grow in different ways each year. Great stuff, Six One Indie team!

I’m always searching for the next indie titles that are going to grab my attention, but I’m also very interested in playing big AA and AAA titles. An “Indie” can come from a team of one or a team of one hundred. That’s what makes these showcases fun, we get to see all kinds of games.

You can watch the entire showcase right here (and you should). Below are my TOP FIVE most anticipated games from the Six One Indie Showcase.

1 | Ourlands

“Ourlands is an island builder where you make cozy little isles for cozy little people to escape to.
Everyone has their own preferences, and so it’s up to you to craft their perfect slice of paradise.”
-GrahamOfLegend

I was super excited to see Graham Reid (GrahamOfLegend) reveal his brand new game, Ourlands, during the Six One Indie Showcase. I had a great talk with Graham about his first game, Super Space Club.

At a glance, Super Space Club could look like a simple arcade shooter, but it was much more than that due to the art style, lofi beats, and the way each ship felt completely different. While Ourlands (a cozy island builder) doesn’t immediately look like the type of game I would go for, I’m excited nonetheless because of my trust in Graham. I can see this being the perfect nighttime, bedtime game — please come to Switch!

2 | Reggie, His Cousin, Two Scientists and Most Likely the End of the World

“Get ready to go on a mind-bending adventure in Reggie, His Cousin, Two Scientists and Most Likely the End of the World,
the new 2D cartoon platformer developed by Degoma. Control the direction of gravity as you run, jump and explore in an outrageous time-traveling adventure as Reggie, an unlikely hero from the 16,000th century on a mission to save science
and ultimately the entire universe.”
-Degoma Games

The showcase featured a few “grouped games,” Reggie, His Cousin, Two Scientists and Most Likely the End of the World was featured in the couch co-op group. I’m always looking for more couch co-op to play with my girlfriend, these are our weekend games.

Reggie, His Cousin, Two Scientists and Most Likely the End of the World stood out to me not only because of the couch co-op, but the different ways it can be used. We can each play as our own characters, or one of us can control gravity while the other controls Reggie. Something about the art style gave off some Studio Ghibli vibes to me. I’m also a big fan of the Super Meat Boy games for the simple cartoon design, and this game features some of those characteristics. I look forward to playing Reggie, His Cousin, Two Scientists and Most Likely the End of the World on the couch with my girlfriend.

3 | Aikyam

“The village of Aikyam is in turmoil! Chaos reigns supreme following the sudden and mysterious disappearance of
the beloved co-mayors. Demons, eager to snatch the almighty Celestial Glue, are preparing to plunge the world
into eternal darkness. It’s up to Vishva, Ramli, and Guru-ji to dazzle the hearts of disgruntled villagers with
extravagant turn-based battles and rally them against the demons in this Bollywood-inspired fantasy RPG!”
-Thousand Stars Studio

Aikyam stood out to me due to its unique music and art style. I love these little doll characters, they almost look like little potato/bean people and creatures. I love the idea of dance rhythm battles in a Bollywood-inspired world. Aikyam‘s trailer made me feel happy and sometimes we need happy games.

Whenever a team can take something unique from their own culture (like Bollywood) and build a fun story around it I’m here for it.

4 | Cabernet

“Cabernet is a 2D narrative RPG set in a 19th century Eastern European inspired world, with a modern twist.
Guide Liza, a young vampire in her new unlife among the unsuspecting townsfolk. Will you retain your
humanity or descend further into the horror you have become?”
-Party for Introverts | Akupara Games

The Akupara games block featured four totally different titles and a creepy crypt master co-host to tell us all about them. Cabernet is the one that stuck out to me because of the story. The idea of a doctor — who has made a promise to protect people — who also happens to be a vampire — someone who must hurt people to survive — already has my attention.

I don’t usually go for 2D narrative games — mainly since I end up abandoning the story halfway through. I am excited about the vampire elements and being able to sneak around as a bat or become invisible. I’m intrigued by Cabernet and excited to see some more.

5 | Pirofauna

“Pirofauna is a charming exploration adventure game where the cute little Flame ignites
everything it touches and helps bugs in the dark, misty forest.
In this forest, fire is a friendly element that flora and fauna look forward to, and
forest dwellers treat little Flame as one of the deities.”
-Petums

Pirofauna was the final “one more thing” game of the showcase, and it definitely deserved to be in that spot. The trailer introduces a cute little fire critter who wants to save the wilderness. I immediately was obsessed with the look of this world.

Once the trailer ended, we got to see how the developer creates these beautiful landscapes out of paper and brings them into the game. That made me even more excited to jump into this paper-made world and set it on fire.

You can watch the entire Six One Indie Showcase right here.

They also created this wonderful site that allows you to explore each game further, watch the post-show content and interviews, and even see Six One Indie Showcase Alumni from past years. These indie showcases are beautiful because they take me out of my gaming comfort zone. They get me hyped for games that I wouldn’t normally go for.

Congratulations, Six One Indie.
You did it again!
